The brief

A considered, long-term finish.

Four Oaks Painting & Decorating recently completed our first project for Hunningtons, delivering internal decorating works to a substantial period property as part of works connected with the HS2 programme.

The property featured a range of traditional architectural details, including high ceilings, decorative cornices, ceiling roses, sash windows, panelled doors, picture rails and extensive timberwork.

Because of the character of the building, the project required more care and attention than a straightforward commercial redecoration. Our objective was to refresh and improve the interior while ensuring the property’s original features remained clean, crisp and well defined.

Our decorating team carried out works across several areas of the property, including large principal rooms, bedrooms, corridors, landings, staircases and bathroom areas. The result needed to meet the standards expected on a professionally managed commercial project while still respecting the character of the property.

Preparation & finish.

Preparation

Period properties often contain significantly more decorative timberwork and architectural mouldings than modern buildings. These areas require careful preparation, accurate cutting-in and a methodical approach if the finished decoration is going to complement rather than detract from the building. Minor filling and making good were carried out where required, with existing flooring, fixtures and finishes protected.

Finish details

Decorative cornices, ceiling roses, picture rails, sash window surrounds and panelled joinery were all treated as individual features rather than simply painted over as part of the general works. This helped retain the definition of the original detailing while giving the overall interior a cleaner and more consistent appearance.

The project was successfully completed and handed over to Hunningtons. Following completion of this first project, Four Oaks Painting & Decorating has already been asked to price further works for Hunningtons, which is a strong indication of the standard of service and finish delivered by our team.

As a contractor-led project, completing the decorating works efficiently and within the required programme was equally important. Our team coordinated labour, preparation and finishing stages across the different areas of the property to keep the works progressing while maintaining the required standard.

We can scale labour depending on the requirements of the project, helping contractors and commercial clients meet demanding programmes without sacrificing finish quality. Our aim is not simply to complete individual decorating projects, but to become a dependable decorating contractor that clients can call upon repeatedly as new work becomes available.

Alongside our residential work, we provide painting and decorating services for contractors, property managers, commercial organisations, schools, offices and managed residential developments throughout Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.
