A complete exterior redecoration of a detached home in Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, featuring extensive preparation, Farrow & Ball Strong White painted brickwork and contrasting grey timber shutters.
Before
AfterThe Four Oaks Painting & Decorating team completed a full exterior redecoration of this detached home in Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield.
The property had previously been painted, but a number of areas were showing clear signs of weathering and coating failure. The masonry needed refreshing, while several of the decorative timber shutters had deteriorated considerably, with peeling and flaking paint exposing the coatings beneath.
As with any exterior decorating project, simply applying another coat of paint would not have produced the finish or longevity we were looking for — so the job began with thorough preparation before the new exterior coatings were applied.

Peeling and failing paintwork on the decorative timber shutters, scraped back and prepared before any new coatings were introduced.

Side passage areas prepared with surfaces protected by dust sheets, keeping the surrounding paving, paths and garden areas clean throughout.

Rear elevation masonry painting in progress, working from top to bottom with appropriate access equipment to keep the finish consistent across the elevation.

Cutting in around the first-floor windows and shutters on the front elevation, with decking and planting fully sheeted below.

Darker exterior detailing carried through selected areas of the property to tie the overall colour scheme together.

Garage, side door and surrounding brickwork finished to match the main elevations for a consistent exterior throughout.

The finished front elevation — fresher and more contemporary, without dramatically changing the original character of the property.
Loose and failing coatings were removed, surfaces scraped and sanded where necessary, and defective areas prepared before any new paint was introduced. Particular attention was needed around the decorative shutters, where the existing finish had broken down heavily in places. Paving, decking, paths and garden areas were protected throughout.

The completed project has transformed the appearance of the house without dramatically changing its original style.
The combination of Farrow & Ball Strong White painted brickwork, contrasting grey shutters and darker exterior detailing has given the property a much fresher and more contemporary appearance.
More importantly, the underlying surfaces were properly prepared before decorating, helping provide a much more durable exterior finish.
