What's involved.
Original sash windows are repairable rather than replaceable in almost every case. The expensive part isn't the wood — it's the labour to strip, splice, re-putty and re-paint properly.
We use Repaircare for structural timber repair (load-bearing, paintable, decades-long) and Sikkens for topcoats. A correctly restored sash typically runs 10–12+ years before next overhaul.

Can rotten sash bottoms be saved?+
Almost always, yes — splice repairs with Repaircare are structural and paintable. Full replacement is a last resort.
How long should a sash repaint last?+
On Sikkens spec with proper prep, 10–12+ years on south / west elevations.
Can you re-cord sashes that don't move?+
Yes — sash cords are replaced as part of the works where required.
